Two months into Crossfit

Hey

Today I wanted to share with you my experience training Crossfit.

I did weightlifting for a long time, but it started to become a pain in the ass to go to the gym, it was so
boring I wanted to go home as soon as I crossed the door.
So I decided to take a break for a month, after that month I came back, and guess what? I just got as
bored as before, so I decided to quit.

I knew I had to do something for my body, but I didn't know what, and it was then when I found out
about Crossfit.
Being the information consuming machine I am, I started reading all I could find about it, and
discovered that there is people who absolutely love it and people who absolutely hate it.

People who hate it says its because Crossfiters forget about form just to get more repetitions, that
they push their bodies to unhealthy extremes and that because of that injury risk is bigger.

Choosing the right Box (Gym), knowing your body and training thoughtfully you can avoid all those
problems and enjoy the results of training in "Constantly varied, functional movements, performed at
high intensity in order to increase work capacity over broad time and modal domains".

Most Boxes offer a free one week trial, so I took it.
My first day I was gladly surprised by how welcoming and cohesive the group was, I found the "Box
rules" most of them were funny, but I remember one saying "If your partner faints or vomit, don't
worry, he is just resting", and then there was a big sign saying "Leave your ego at the door".

After stretching, the professor explained the WOD (Workout Of the Day) that are the exercises we
are going to do that day, the WOD changes everyday and you never know it until you get into the
box, and usually last between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the specific WOD and your fitness
level.

Usually in a WOD you do an exercise and when the involved muscles are so tired you need to rest
you move to a different exercise, that way the muscles can recover but you cardiorespiratory system
doesn't.

Check this short video to see what a WOD is about:

In my first week of training I was feeling dizzy in the middle of the WODs, other times it felt like I
was training with a plastic bag in my head, even as I breathed through my mouth and nose it seemed
that the incoming air couldn't provide all oxygen my body needed.

Two months later it's the same LOL, well kinda...

The big difference is that I noticed my cardio improved a lot, also my strength, as I started doing the
exercises with more weight and started training 4 days a week instead of just 2 and my beer fueled
belly started to disappear even as I gained 4 lbs, probably muscle mass.

But the idea of Crossfit is to take your body to YOUR limit every WOD, so even as you get better
and stronger if you push yourself you'll find you run out of breath and go to failure in the lasts reps.

Also, besides training your body you'll train your mind, it's hard to continue when it screams you to
stop, your muscles hurt, your lungs beg for oxygen and your heart beats like a machine gun going
cyclic, only being focused in accomplishing your goals will allow you to finish.

Crossfit isn't for everyone, you need an special  personality type to survive it, but the results you can
appreciate in your body and mind are well worth the price.

Security: A resistance manual by Sam Culper Review

Hey guys

If you read Mosby's blog probably you already know Sam Culper from http://guerrillamerica.com/
a blog dealing with Intelligence Collection and Analysis oriented to prepper, resistance, III% kind
of folks.

Sam for sure knows what he is talking about and you can appreciate that both in his blog as in
"Security: A Resistance Manual" the e-book he wrote and I'm reviewing in this post.

"Security: A Resistance Manual" is an excellent primer on the techniques and procedures that will
allow a resistance to operate and communicate securely under the constant watch of Big Brother.

Topics covered in the book include communications security (COMSEC), information security
(INFOSEC), personnel security (PERSEC) and operations security (OPSEC).

Good thing is that the e-book goes straight to the point  and in every chapter you'll find tips or
actions you can take easily to improve your group security, also the book is explained in layman
terms, so you don't need to be a tech savvy guy to understand what Sam is talking about.

But don't get me wrong, even people with knowledge in COMSEC/INFOSEC will find gold nuggets
in this e-book, and new stuff to research and experiment.

Sam also provides a list of useful links to continue learning about the different subjects covered, and
even better, he provides his awesome blog whose content complements perfectly this e-book.

Solid stuff Sam, thanks a lot for the awesome e-book, the only con I found is that is short and leaves
you wanting more, but well, we have the blog to satisfy that :D

You can buy your copy at: http://iiimagazine.com/?product=iii-security-manual-pre-order

And visit Sam's blog at: http://guerrillamerica.com/

EDIT: Sam contacted me and told me that he is working on an extended version of the e-book that
will be twice as long, and also all the people who already bought the first version will get the
extended version for FREE.

The Conspiracy movie review

I just finished watching the movie "The Conspiracy" this thriller made in 2012 follows two
filmmakers doing a documentary about a conspiracy theorist who suddenly disappears.
One of the filmmakers decides to continue the research trying to figure out what happened with the
disappeared guy and I'm not going to tell you any more... See it for yourself.

The writer/director Christopher MacBride did an awesome job with a really low budget, the history
is engaging and with a good pace that will keep you hooked for the 84 minutes it lasts.

I totally recommend it for this weekend.

Bad things about the Baofeng UV5R

Hey guys

Probably you already found a ton of articles telling you how awesome the Baofeng UV5R is, today
I'm going to do something different, I'll tell you all the defects I found in it.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's an awesome radio, specially considering the bang for the buck factor,
and I would buy another one without doubt, but I didn't want to write just another UV5R article...

So, lets get down to business.
- The manual sucks. The manual is just a few pages long, doesn't give you much details about the unit
and doesn't explain clearly how to program it. Lucky for us there is a great website with a ton of
information about the UV5R, check it here: http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/
- There is no reception power indicator, the indicator is binary, you are receiving something or you
don't.

- You can't update the firmware. The microcontroller is an OTP (One Time Programmable). Once
'flash' programmed at the factory, it cannot be changed.

- There is a known 'quirk' with the UV5R receiver. If a scanned channel has an R-CTCSS (PL) tone
of 136.5 Hz or lower, the receiver will not stop on that channel. R-CTCSS (PL) tones of 146.2 and
higher work fine.

- Scanning speed is really low, to scan 1 MHz at 5KHz steps it takes 59.65 seconds, while my Yaesu
FT270 only takes 7.45 seconds. Test was performed scanning from 147 to 148 Mhz without finding
any station during the scan.

- The charger input voltage is 10v, so you wouldn't be able to plug it directly to your car battery.

- Some people report a low mic volume, didn't happen to me, the solution is to carefully enlarge the
mic hole.

- The Alarm function. Man, WTF is that crap? When you push a button named "Call" to the side of
the unit, it will start emitting an alarm sound and turning on and off all the lights, and depending on
the mode it is configured it will also start transmitting the alarm! You gotta see that for yourself,
check it HERE. Biggest problem with that is that the button is in a position that is very easy to push
by accident, in a tactical situation you are dead meat if that turns on. Also, there is no way to
deactivate the function programmatically, so I think the solution is to open the unit and break that
button, the problem is that you'll lose the FM radio if you do that.

- The flashlight, its very useful with the exception of the strobe mode that is totally useless, but the
problem is that is turned on by pushing the MONI button, so the chances of turning it on by accident
are really big, and in some situations that can ruin your day. Best solution, put some tape over the
LED or when you open the radio to break the CALL button, also disconnect the LED.

Devil at the Door : A Lights Out Saga Short Film Review

A few years ago I wrote about an awesome book called "Lights Out" by David Crawford, if you ask
me is the best prepping fiction book I have read until today.

http://apx808.blogspot.com/2010/02/lights-out-by-halffast.html
http://apx808.blogspot.com/2010/12/lights-out-on-paper.html

Imagine my happiness when I found out that they planned to do a series of movies about the book
with the author directly involved in the project.

Well, today they published a short film called "Devil at the Door" just as a preview for the things to
come... And things to come are fucking depressing, see it for yourself.

Tactically this is a joke, both the attackers and the defense had no fucking clue what they were doing.

The defense should have used better defensive positions, being holed up in the ground and being
distributed in the area, not in a fucking line 30 cm apart from each other!!

It seems they don't know the difference between cover and concealment, wood pallets won't stop rifle
bullets, they won't stop even handgun bullets!

The attackers where playing around with their motorcycles while they where getting shot, and the
ones on foot didn't even use the trees as cover.

Fuck is so frustrating I have seen better tactics in Hollywood movies, people filming Lights out
supposedly are preppers they should know better...

The acting sucked so fucking bad I can't believe it and the FX are non existent.

Damn, I'm so disappointed...

EDIT:
Travis Fox the Executive Producer of the project replied to some comments similar to mine with this:

In the movies themselves, we'll dig trenches, fortify fighting positions, have interlocking fields of
fire, etc. The barricade here was meant to deny movement more than provide cover (although there
were sandbags and items like a backhoe bucket). This was a two day film shoot intended to share the
concepts of the story on a very limited budget. Your points are very valid, though.

Sorry for not explaining this trailer better. This wasn't cherry picking scenes - this is a short film that
captures the concept of the movie series. The movies have NOT started filming yet. We have no
movie footage to use, and this footage will not be used in the movies. This was a two day film project
intended to get your attention. We couldn't dig trenches and do a lot of things we WILL do in the
actual movies here.

Falling Skies season 2

Falling Skies season 2 started, I really liked the first episode.
One thing I didn't liked is Ben getting those superpowers shit, I hope this doesn't turn into X-Man or
some crap like that. The guy can jump from really high places and has a lot of force.
Lets see how the rest of the season goes, IMO is the best series that is being aired at the moment.

Machine Gun Preacher

Guyz you need to watch this movie ASAP
It fucking awesome, its based on a true story about Sam Childers, a former biker that decides to
change its life, find Jesus and decides to go Sudan to fight the LRA a faction killing and mutilating
thousands of Africans each year.

I don't know why it only rates 6.7 on IMDB, just trust me and watch it, you won't regret about it.

Aaron Cohen - Technical Advisor & Weapons Trainer - Haywire

Here is a video of the work Aaron did as tech advisor for the movie Haywire.
If you don't know who Aaron is, you should read his book "Brotherhood of warriors",
the book is an auto biography of this Canadian guy, who lived in Beverly Hills and went
to Israel to join the IDF SFs and worked as an undercover agent in Palestine. The book
is extremely fun, I finished it in 2 days. Totally recommended.
Here is a more complete review of the book

Now, check the vid...

Contagion

If you haven't seen it yet, you should, really thought provoking, and unlike "The human centipede" we
can say that this movie REALLY is 100% medically accurate :D

Soon after her return from a business trip to Hong Kong, Beth Emhoff
dies from what is a flu or some other type of infection. Her young son
dies a few days later. Her husband Mitch however seems immune. Thus
begins the spread of a deadly infection. For doctors and administrators
at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, several days pass before anyone
realizes the extent or gravity of this new infection. They must first
identify the type of virus in question and then find a means of
combating it, a process that will likely take several months. As the
contagion spreads to millions of people worldwide, societal order begins
to break down as people panic.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Trailer

The zombies are comming back and I like it... While you wait until october for season 2, you can
read the comic books, they are really really good, and belive me I never liked comics.
The zombies in the comic are just an ingredient as it is more about a group of people trying to
survive really shitty times.

LDS Preparedness Manual

A lot of people in the prepper community are recommending this book, and I plan to do
the same :D

This book is a collection of essays written by members of "The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints" aka Mormons, but don't worry, the manual only has an intro explaining
why the church ask their followers to prep, and the rest of the chapters are pure gold.

This book in its 222 pages covers food storage really deeply and has tons of checklist
that are really handy.

The best of all is that you can get an online copy fro FREE from:

http://www.abysmal.com/LDS/Preparedness/

You also can order printed copies for the price of the paper, that is 8 bucks, sadly
is impossible to find this book in any major bookstore :S

I would like to thank the Mormon community for sharing all this knowledge and I'll
leave you with an excellent coverage of this book courtesy of TheSurvivalBookshelf

The Nutnfancy Project

.

This guy Nutnfancy is awesome, probably a lot of you already know him, otherwise, let me tell
you he does tactical gear reviews on Youtube. But he is not like any other reviewer, his are top
notch quality, long and detailed and besides he really test the equipment outdoors.
He also has some videos of his adventures in the wild filmed reality show style and videos about
tactics and philosophy.

I discovered him looking for a Ruger 10/22 review and since then I subscribed and check
everyday what he uploads, and yes I said everyday literally, as he uploads 3 or 4 videos a
week.

http://twitter.com/nutnfancy
http://www.youtube.com/user/nutnfancy

Quoted from urbanDictionary:

Nutnfancy is a popular YouTube reviewer of knives, guns, and other practical and tactical
equipment. Nutnfancy serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, and makes
his videos in his spare time. Nutnfancy's knife and gun reviews are usually quite detailed and
lengthy compared to other YouTube reviewers. Unlike most reviewers, Nutnfancy does not
simply unbox the item being reviewed and describe it to the camera. Rather, he discusses in
detail the strengths and weaknesses of the knife or gun and what he personally likes/dislikes
about it. In addition to reviewing guns, Nutnfancy has also produced several videos of him and
his friends shooting in the desert. Nutnfancy has named his collection of videos and ongoing
enterprise The Nutnfancy Project, or TNP for short. People who watch The Nutnfancy Project
are known as TNPrs. In addition to his thousands of fans, Nutnfancy, like every other YouTuber,
has some haters. These people are usually low on the intelligence scale and miss the point of
what he is trying to say. Nutnfancy likes to wear hats, and it is rare to see him without one.
Nutnfancy also likes to DuraCoat everything in sight.

Collapse by Michael Ruppert

.
I just finished watching Collapse, basically it's a one hour interview to Michael Ruppert
in which he shows how dependent is our civilization on oil, how we are running out of it
drastically and what will happen and what you can do when the shit hits the fan.
He also analyzes the problems with the "alternative energies" and also shows that the lack of oil
isn't only a energetic issue because we use oil and oil derivatives in every fucking thing
constructed by any human being.
I really liked it and strongly recommend it, it will make you think...

Call Of Duty 6: Modern WarFAIL 2

.
Thanks Skidrow for letting me see how shitty is this game for free... Now that I played it, its not
only the lack of dedicated servers what bothers me... This is the review I posted it on Gamespot
I gave it a 2...

No dedicated servers, no tilt head keys, extremely short missions, crappy story line

This game its a total rip off, I never waited for something so much to feel as disappointed as with
this aberration.
Infinity ward totally destroyed the franchise.
The story line its hard to follow, you just start in some place and you just need to follow your
partners, killing the guys around.
From a used shell picture they know you have to go to a Brasilian favela.
You can't turn off the music or modify SFX, voice and music volumes.
You don't have the E and Q keys to tilt your head to peek at corners.
You don't have a console anymore
You don't have dedicated servers
You have a HUD telling you the distance to your next point and an arrow pointing at it, and you
can't turn that crap off!!
I HATE having a HUD, I don't want to see anything on the screen, just above your partners
heads you have BIGGGG signs saying "FOLLOW", "COVER".

BAD BAD BAD I HATE IT

I just give it a 2 because I liked the graphics.

Puaj I think about this game and I wanna puke.
Don't buy this, it would be the worst 60 bucks ever spent.

Fall Of The Republic

.

I just finished watching this documentary, some of you might think its for "Tin Foil Hat" people,
but there are some facts you can't deny. I really enjoyed it, and Facebook blocked it because of
"abusive".
It talks about how mass media manipulates your head meanwhile international banks act as
puppet masters controlling presidents, how civilians are indoctrinated to spy on their neighbors,
and the most shocking one was the Al Gore's "carbon tax" a tax to carbon dioxide emissions... so
you can be taxed because of breathing.

So... turn off the fooking TV and start using your brain.

Cheerz

Fall Of The Republic documents how an offshore corporate cartel is
bankrupting the US economy by design. Leaders are now declaring that world
government has arrived and that the dollar will be replaced by a new global currency.

President Obama has brazenly violated Article 1 Section 9 of the US Constitution by
seating himself at the head of United Nations' Security Council, thus becoming the
first US president to chair the world body.

A scientific dictatorship is in its final stages of completion, and laws protecting
basic human rights are being abolished worldwide; an iron curtain of high-tech
tyranny is now descending over the planet.

A worldwide regime controlled by an unelected corporate elite is implementing a
planetary carbon tax system that will dominate all human activity and establish a
system of neo-feudal slavery.

The image makers have carefully packaged Obama as the world's savior; he is the
Trojan Horse manufactured to pacify the people just long enough for the globalists
to complete their master plan.

This film reveals the architecture of the New World Order and what the power elite
have in store for humanity. More importantly it communicates how We The People can
retake control of our government, turn the criminal tide and bring the tyrants to
justice.
